Networking to Save More Lives at Adoption Options

by Melissa Vecera

Adoption Options, Petfinder’s free one-day conference series, focusing on behavior, placement, and promotion, are a great way to gain new knowledge about the most up-to-date information in animal welfare from nationally known speakers. Another benefit of Adoption Options (and also part of the mission) is networking among the attendees.

Adoption Options recently came to Memphis, TN and our speaker lineup included internationally known dog trainer, Sue Sternberg. Sue had the pleasure of showing basic obedience and enrichment on three great dogs from Memphis Animal Services. One of these dogs, appropriately named Chance, captured the heart of attendee Denise Novak from Save1Pet. Denise was able to pull Chance from the shelter, and she was kind enough to post the story on the Petfinder Pro Facebook page. Her comment was:

“After at least 10 years I was able to attend!!! I was only able to make the last half but really enjoyed it and learned even more. The Shelter Medicine part still was very informative and learned from it. The Sue Sternberg part had me on the edge of my seat! I fell in love with one of the dogs she worked with and pulled him from the shelter today. Sue was amazing and I’m trilled I was able to attend the event!”

The entire Petfinder outreach team was delighted to see how attending and networking at Adoption Options lead to Chance being given, well, another chance. Even better news came two weeks later when Denise posted this update:

“BTW Chance found his loving home last Saturday too! He’s going to be very well cared for and loved. So glad he was one of the chosen to come to Sue Sternberg session on training and evaluation!”

Not only did Denise learn great information on shelter medicine and dog enrichment, but she helped save a life. Check out the remaining Adoption Options scheduled for 2014, and please let us know if you would like us to come to your city in 2015. We hope to see you at an Adoption Options soon!
