Did you know that August 17 is Black Cat Appreciation Day?
Every day is cat appreciation day (cats everywhere agree), but this one day focuses on the love of black cats.
Over the years, I’ve learned fun ideas from Petfinder members to help shine the light on black cats. Some special promotion ideas include hosting “Black Friday” sales with discounted adoption fees on black cats or “Black Tie” events where staff and volunteers dress up and add bowties to the cats willing to wear them.
When photographing black cats, lighting is extra important to bring out their features. Try to catch a photo near a window for natural light. Or, use Black Cat Appreciation Day to request a donation of a photography light and reflector from your community to improve photos where there is limited or no natural light available.
