For Animal Control Officers and lost pet recovery teams, locating stray dogs and cats is only half of the battle.  Conducting a safe capture often requires out-of-the-box techniques. Kat Albrecht, Founder of Missing Pet Partnership, has over 15 years of experience in recovering skittish, hart-to-catch dogs and cats.  As a former police officer/search-and-rescue dog handler, Kat has used her knowledge of lost pet behaviors, Calming Signals, scent dispersal, and high-tech equipment to train “pet detectives”  how to help families recover their skittish lost pets.  Kat is now available to teach these same techniques to the men and women in the front line of capturing dogs and cats:  ANIMAL CONTROL OFFICERS.  In this 4-hour workshop, attendees will learn:

  • Panicked dog and cat behaviors
  • Calming signals and how NOT to call a stray dog
  • Missing cat vs. displaced cat behaviors
  • House-As-Trap, Garage-As-Trap, and Car-As-Trap recovery methods
  • TAR (trap-and-reunite) services and techniques
  • Kennel Traps, Clam Traps, Drop Traps, Drop Nets, and other homemade dog traps
  • Magnet dog/Snappy Snare recovery techniques
  • Smudging your bait, scent luring and scent dispersal strategies
  • Digital wildlife cameras, driveway alarms, drones, and FLIR technology for I-Phones
  • Professional Pet Detectives, K9 Pet Detectives and emerging volunteer “MAR” teams

This course has been pre-approved for Certified Animal Welfare Administrator continuing education credits (4.00 CPD credits).
